The small, but beautiful island of Torcello

Torcello is an island of the northern lagoon. Its calm and archaeological and historical richness makes it one of the tourists’ favourites destinations.

Torcello is one of the most ancient settlements of the lagoon: according to the archaeological campaigns, the island was already populated from the VII century with the transfer of the Catholic bishop of Altino in the island. Between the VII century and the X century, the island had a period of economic growing, but it felt as Venice ascended. Nowadays the habitants are about ten and the island lives off tourism.

The archaeological richness and the historical proofs capture the tourists’ interest. In Torcello you can visit the churches of Saint Maria or Saint Fosca, the Museum of Torcello and you can pass by the famous Devil’s bridge.
